The Washington Energy Carbon Advancement Network, WECAN, is a regional innovation cluster focused on overcoming industry-identified barriers to carbon management project deployment in the Northwest and advancing solutions that leverage the region’s geologic, regulatory, political, and research strengths.

We are excited to welcome four new Advisory Board members:

These organizations join a strong and growing Advisory Board, alongside members from 

What We're Working On: 

  • Interagency coordination & regulatory pathway development for geologic carbon sequestration
  • Sequestration hub strategy and roadmap development for Washington State
  • Legislative engagement, policy development, and education
  • Stakeholder convening and cross-sector coalition building
  • Technical education and knowledge sharing (agencies, legislators, industry)

What's Happening Now: 

  • Monthly interstate agency convenings across Washington, Oregon, and federal partners 
  • Monthly Advisory Board meetings to discuss infrastructure, permitting, and deployment pathways
  • Ongoing engagement with legislative partners and state agencies to align carbon manegement efforts 

WECAN’s Advisory Board

WECAN’s work is guided by ongoing input from its Advisory Board and partners, helping ensure that efforts are aligned with real-world needs and opportunities across the region. The board is growing and brings together expertise across the carbon management ecosystem, including:

CarbFix • CarbonQuest • PSE • McKinstry • Johnston Engineering • Stoel Rives • NW Natural  • Williams

The board meets regularly to:

  • Help identify key barriers and opportunities
  • Provide input on priority focus areas
  • Guide WECAN’s near-term actions and longer-term strategy
