One of the major milestones of the 2026 election cycle has now passed. Candidates seeking office in Washington state were required to file for election by 5:00pm on Friday, May 8th.

This year, all 98 House seats and 24 Senate seats are up for election. Filing week provides one of the first real indicators of where the political battlegrounds will emerge heading into the August primary and November general election. Heading into filing week, several legislators had already announced retirements, plans to seek other offices, or decisions not to seek reelection.

High turnover continues to reshape the Legislature, particularly following several cycles of retirements and appointments. Below is a list of members that are not seeking re-election or running for another office.
